The evidence-backed guide to local visibility.

Local visibility is built from accurate business facts, a useful website, genuine customer evidence, and disciplined measurement. There is no secret field, posting schedule, or AI file that guarantees a ranking or citation.

The short answer

Make the business eligible and accurate. Keep the website crawlable and consistent with the profile. Help customers understand the services and next step. Ask for honest reviews without incentives or gating. Measure from a dated baseline, then change one material variable at a time.

01

Relevance, distance, and prominence.

Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and prominence. It does not publish a formula or let businesses pay for a better organic local ranking. That makes readiness auditable, but outcomes cannot be promised.

Use this distinction: a readiness check can identify missing or contradictory public evidence. It cannot know Google's private weights or guarantee how one query will rank from every location.

02

Start with eligibility and owner control.

Use one eligible profile for each real eligible business or location. The business owner should retain ownership and grant a provider manager access. Virtual offices, fabricated locations, duplicate city profiles, and keyword additions to the real-world business name create material policy risk.

Verify the facts customers actually use

  • Real-world business name and the most specific accurate primary category.
  • Address or service area that matches how the business truly serves customers.
  • Regular and special hours that reflect genuine availability.
  • Phone, website, services, products, photos, and social links where applicable.
  • A website destination that represents the same business and customer intent.

Completeness is a factual quality goal, not permission to stuff fields with cities or keywords. Use designated fields for services and service areas. Keep descriptions natural and useful.

03

The website should confirm the profile, not contradict it.

The linked page should clearly state who the business serves, what it provides, where it operates, and how a customer can take the next step. Important facts should be visible in text, available through crawlable internal links, and consistent across the site and profile.

Release checks

  • HTTPS, indexability, canonical URL, sitemap inclusion, and useful internal links.
  • Readable mobile content, visible focus, usable forms, and a clear contact path.
  • Original first-hand proof, clear authorship, source links, and maintained facts.
  • LocalBusiness or Organization structured data only when it matches visible content.
  • Rich Results Test and deployed-page inspection before claiming technical readiness.

Valid structured data can help machines understand a page. It does not guarantee a rich result, ranking, or AI citation. A business should not copy its own Google rating into self-serving review schema.

04

Ask for genuine reviews neutrally.

A safe request asks real customers to describe their genuine experience. It does not offer a discount or gift, screen out unhappy customers, request a rating, prescribe wording, or create pressure. Use the same neutral process for every eligible customer.

Replies should be short, specific, professional, and privacy-safe. Move complicated disputes to a private channel without disclosing customer, health, account, transaction, or legal details in public.

No magic threshold: Google does not publish a ten-review switch or a required monthly review velocity. Measure customer trust and conversion while keeping the process consistent and policy-safe.

06

Measure qualified outcomes, not folklore.

Preserve a dated baseline before changing the profile, linked page, schema, content, or review workflow. Define one primary changed variable, a fixed observation window, a success rule, and a stop rule. Search Console queries and profile actions are observations, not automatic proof of causality.

  1. Eligibility and policy safety
  2. Crawl and index coverage
  3. Accurate profile and website facts
  4. Query and page visibility observations
  5. Qualified website sessions, calls, and bookings
  6. Revenue outcomes only where attribution is authorized and honest
  7. Complaints, corrections, suspensions, and trust cost
